Coniston Water
Coniston, previously known as Thurston's Mere, sits in the centre
of the Lake District National Park under the gaze of Consiton
Old Man at the northern end of the lake and under the Blawith
fells to the southern end. Consiton Water has three main islands,
the most renowned of these being Peel Island, the scenery of which
Arthur Ransome drew from for Wild Cat Isle in his famous book "Swallows
and Amazons.
